Since then, the series has extended its offerings, and in 1986, the 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf was introduced containing 0.50 troy ounces of .9999 gold.

The 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin's reverse showcases the sugar maple leaf, Canada's national emblem, which is also central to the country's flag and numerous government symbols. The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, varying by the coin's minting date. From 1986 to 1989, the Queen is depicted at age 39; from 1990 to 2002, at age 64; and from 2003 to 2023, at age 79. Starting in 2024, the coin features King Charles III's portrait.
