The American Silver Eagle coin is presently the most popular silver coin worldwide. Production was authorized by Congress with the passage of the Liberty Coin Act. Initially, the San Francisco Mint produced it, but in the 1990s, production shifted to the Philadelphia Mint. Since 2001, the American Silver Eagle has been struck at the West Point Mint.
