Over the course of its 30+ year legacy, the Gold Britannia Coin has experienced notable transformations. Initially, these coins were minted with 22-karat gold, equivalent to .917 fineness, but they still contained a full troy ounce of pure gold. In 2013, the Royal Mint enhanced the coin’s purity to 24-karat, achieving .9999 fineness. Furthermore, the coin’s obverse design has evolved to capture the updates in Queen Elizabeth II’s likeness. A significant update came in mid-2023 when the coin featured the inaugural portrait of King Charles III.
