The American Platinum Eagle was introduced by the United States Mint in 1997. It was available in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz options for investors. These four coins were issued annually until 2008. In 2009, the US Mint suspended production of all four weights of the Platinum Eagle. The series resumed in 2014, but only the 1 oz platinum coin was available.
The 1 oz Platinum American Eagle coin is available in individual plastic flips, tubes of 20 coins, or mint-sealed Monster Boxes of 100 coins.
When purchasing, customers will receive coins from random years of mintage and may receive multiples or all of the same year.
Each coin contains 1 Troy oz of .9995 pure platinum in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) condition and bears a face value of $100 (USD) backed by the United States Government.
The obverse side of the coin features the Statue of Liberty, while the reverse side features an American bald eagle in flight.
