1 oz South African Silver Krugerrand
Paul Kruger, also known as Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger, was a prominent figure in South African history. He is best known for his role in leading the Boer resistance against British imperialism and his leadership during the Second Anglo-Boer War. From 1967 to 2017, the South African Mint and Rand Refinery only issued the South African Krugerrand Coins in gold. However, in 2017, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the South African Krugerrand, the South African Mint introduced the first-ever Silver Krugerrand.
About The 1 oz South African Silver Krugerrand
The South African Silver Krugerrand Coins feature a left-profile bust of Paul Kruger on the obverse side. Paul Kruger was born on October 10, 1825, in Steynsburg, Cape Colony, which is now a part of South Africa. He grew up in a Boer farming community and was of German and Dutch descent. His early experiences shaped his strong commitment to Afrikaner nationalism and the preservation of Boer culture and independence. The reverse side features an image of the Springbok antelope. This species of antelope is native to southern Africa and has been depicted on South African coins since the 1930s. It is also the official symbol of the modern Republic of South Africa.
